GYROKINESIS® METHOD

The Gyrokinesis Method is a movement method that addresses the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion and creating functional strength through rhythmic, flowing movement sequences. It is an original and unique method that coordinates movement, breath and mental focus.The Gyrokinesis Method is practiced on a mat and chair without equipment. Without the feedback and guidance of equipment, participants in a Gyrokinesis class are more dependent on their own proprioception to explore movement sequences.

Gyrokinesis Group Class

GYROKINESIS® classes can be adapted to fit anyone's ability. People from all walks of life take Gyrokinesis classes, including accomplished athletes, fitness enthusiasts, senior citizens and people recovering from an injury or dealing with a disability. By the end of a Gyrokinesis session, one's entire system is awakened and brought into greater balance. Focus on the breath stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system resulting in a sense of calm, well-being and mental clarity.

Classes run as a 4-6 week class series.  They can also be taken privately.

Five week series cost:  $115

Drop-in rate:  $25

*This series will focus on applications for Pelvic Floor health while utilizing Gyrokinesis principles.

Monica Hoekstra

Monica Hoekstra is the owner of ABsolute Pilates in Charlotte, NC, founded in 2001.

Apart from her Pilates Certifications, Ms. Hoekstra is Certified in the Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis Methodology and credits this modality for enhancing and inspiring her movement knowledge and adding diversity to her teaching.

Monica is also PCES Graduate of Dr. Sarah Duvall's Core Exercise Solutions Course in Pregnancy, Postpartum and Pelvic Floor Corrective Health Exercises. 

She has also completed a specialized continuing education course in Gyrokinesis with applications for pelvic floor health.

She is proud to offer this unique group class that helps one understand how to optimize breathing and the role it plays in regulating intra abdominal pressure while offering a freedom of movement that will bring an awareness to aligning the bones snd strengthening the entire team of pelvic muscles.
