Our offerings private, duet, and small group apparatus classes, and Ortho-Bionomy® for bodywork.
We proudly provide mentorship and teacher training in the classical method of Pilates through Dark Horse Pilates, founded by Janice Dulak, along with Core Barre Teacher Training since 2011.
Located in the heart of South Park, Charlotte, NC, our studio has been dedicated to teaching the Authentic Classical Pilates method for over 24 years, using the finest apparatus handcrafted by Gratz Pilates.


Pilates
Private Sessions
Experience personalized Pilates sessions designed specifically for you by our expert Instructors. Each 50-55 minute training session incorporates various Pilates apparatus, hands-on instruction and meticulous attention to detail. You'll not only learn Classical exercises but also gain a deeper awareness of your body leading to enhanced posture, strength, and flexibility. Join us to achieve your fitness goals in a supportive and tailored environment.

Pilates
Duet & Trio Sessions
With two students per instructor in our Semi sessions and three students in our Trio sessions, we ensure that everyone receives tailored attention while working alongside peers of similar skill levels. Each 50-55 minute class features classical pilates instruction using Gratz Mats, Tower Units, Reformers, Wunda Chairs, Barrels, Magic Circles, and Hand Weights that keeps you motivated and moving!

Dark Horse Pilates Teacher Training
Janice Dulak created Dark Horse Pilates in response to the growing need to bring the work back to the original Pilates culture.
A boutique style of Pilates, instead of large group classes or emphasis on fast-paced exercise, we focus on the principles of Centering, Concentration, Control and Precision in order to move the student toward balance and mastery.
We are proud to be an affiliate studio for Dark Horse Pilates Teacher Training and continuing educational workshops.

Gyrokinesis®
The Gyrokinesis Method is a movement method that addresses the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion and creating functional strength through rhythmic, flowing movement sequences. It is an original and unique method that coordinates movement, breath and mental focus.
The Gyrokinesis Method is practiced on a mat and chair without equipment. Without the feedback and guidance of equipment, participants in a Gyrokinesis class are more dependent on their own proprioception to explore movement sequences.

This class runs for a series of 4-6 weeks and is currently geared toward Pelvic Floor Health through movements that are reinforced by Gyrokinesis principles.

Core Barre - Smart Movement®
Teacher Training
We provide instructor training in the CORE BARRE System of Smart Movement® exercise modality for teacher training and continuing education.
Core Barre and it's complimentary workshops for continuing education make up the Systems of Smart Movement® and offer intelligent and exciting programming choices for small group settings as well as private instruction.

The three day teaching training is aimed to inspire and invigorate the teacher, to deepen their own personal practice and to expand their knowledge base of biomechanics with a structured barre syllabus that truly promotes the beauty and Art of Smart Movement®.

Monica Hoekstra
Dark Horse Pilates Teacher Mentor and Certified Instructor, GYROTONIC® & GYROKINESIS® Trainer, ACE® Certified.

Monica Hoekstra is the owner of ABsolute Pilates in Charlotte, NC, founded in 2001, and the creator and founder of CORE BARRE - Smart Movement®, 2011.
Monica is passionate about teaching and enjoys coaching clients and students to achieve their optimal fitness goals. She credits much of her teaching style to her early classical ballet training, where she was taught the importance of a solid foundation, a structured syllabus and a good understanding of biomechanics that is relevant to all disciplines of good movement.
Her teaching style is both encouraging and motivating with an emphasis on good technique, precision and control. She also understands the need to simply keep people moving while guiding them in their own journey of self discovery through an awareness of mind and body and the brilliant system of Contrology as developed by it's creator, Joseph H Pilates.
