Instructors

Monica Hoekstra is the creator and founder of CORE BARRE™ and the CORE BARRE™ System of SMART MOVEMENT® and is studio owner of ABsolute Pilates in Charlotte, NC. Ms Hoekstra is a Lead Instructor Trainer for STOTT PILATES® and a Certified GYROTONIC® trainer.  In additon, Ms. Hoekstra is a PMA® Certified Pilates Instructor and Educational Provider as well an ACE® Certified Group Fitness Instructor and Provider of ACE® and AFAA® continuing education. She has a professional dance and teaching background in classical ballet, having trained in Toronto, Hawaii, Hungary and Atlanta. Her dance background led her to her love and appreciation of STOTT PILATES® which she was introduced to while living in her native Toronto, Ontario.
Ms Hoekstra has been teaching at ABsolute Pilates since 2002. The facility became recognized as a licensed training center for STOTT PILATES® in 2004. Ms. Hoekstra has trained student instructors nationwide as well as Sao Paulo and Rio Dejaniro, Brazil and in Eastern Europe.  In addition, Ms Hoekstra has been trained by Aaron Mattes in AIS (Active Isolated Stretching) and has completed his advanced level course. Monica is proud to teach the Mattes Method as a continuing educational workshop to fitness professionals and as private and group client sessions at ABsolute Pilates.
Monica is passionate about teaching and enjoys coaching clients and students to achieve their optimal fitness goals. She considers herself blessed to be part of an elite group of highly trained professionals.
 


 

Alissa Getz is a Certified GYROTONIC® & GYROKINESIS® Master Trainer, a twice - Certified Pilates Instructor (STOTT PILATES® & McEntire Pilates), a Certified Yoga instructor (YogaWorks), and a CORE BARRE™ Master Trainer. Alissa enjoyed an early career as a professional ballet dancer performing with various professional companies, among them the Chicago Ballet and Elements Contemporary Ballet. She received a BFA in Dance with highest honors and is an accredited ballet instructor with the Cecchetti Council of America.
It was her dance career that fostered her love for mind-body fitness and conditioning. She holds comprehensive Pilates certification from STOTT PILATES®(1999) and McEntire Pilates (2004) for whom she served as an Instructor Trainer from 2005-2006. In 1997, Alissa was introduced to GYROTONIC® exercise while visiting New York City. From her first session, Alissa was mesmerized with how the movements felt in her body and was fully hooked when every one of the injuries she had sustained as a dancer were resolved. Alissa has studied extensively with the creator of GYROTONIC®, Juliu Horvath since 1998. Alissa has taken dozens of trainings with Mr. Horvath and has been asked by him to demonstrate and assist for GYROKINESIS® and GYROTONIC® Teacher Trainings, most notably in 2008 for the Advanced Level 2 Training at the GYROTONIC® Educational Convention in Rome, Italy.
In 2003, she founded Chicago Northshore GYROTONIC®, a fully equipped GYROTONIC® and Pilates studio and teacher training facility in Evanston, IL. After 8 years directing her studio, she was ready to pass it on, to further pursue her teaching interests. As a master trainer, Alissa conducts trainings throughout the country in GYROTONIC® Levels 1 and 2, GYROKINESIS®, and on the Specialized Equipment line. She is certified on the entire GYROTONIC® EXPANSION SYSTEM, including the Therapeutic Applications for Pelvis, Spine, and Shoulders, the Dancer Specific Program, and the Scoliosis Program. Alissa has been teaching movement for fifteen years to clients from all walks of life. Her approach is hands-on, and she evokes a passion and precision that is at once; inspiring, informed and unique.

 





Paulina Glencora is a fully certified STOTT PILATES® Instructor Trainer and an official STOTT PILATES® International Presenter. She is a former dancer, having graduated with a degree in Dance Kinesiology from the National Dance School of Mexico.
Paulina has been teaching the STOTT PILATES® method for the last eight years both nationally and internationally as a bilingual Instructor Trainer. She was fully trained and certified at the STOTT PILATES® International Certification Center in Toronto, Canada and she has taught and presented at numerous venues including North and South America, the Caribbean and Asia.
Paulina was the technical director of the STOTT PILATES® Licensed Training Center in Mexico City. She has been teaching group and personal classes, as well as working with injuries and special populations for several years and is delighted to bring her expertise and presence to ABsolute Pilates and work with clients and students alike.
Paulina in also a Master Trainer for CORE BARRE™ and the CORE BARRE™ system of SMART MOVEMENT® and most recently completed her GYROTONIC Level 1 Foundation Training.

 





Jan Monczynski a STOTT PILATES® Instructor Trainer and licensed massage therapist. She graduated from Southeastern Massage School in 1994 then continued on teaching neuromuscular massage, allied modalities and muscular anatomy courses as a teacher at the school. Jan specializes in myofascial, neuromuscular and cranio-sacral therapy and teaches our Injuries and Special Populations courses at ABsolute Pilates. Jan has the keen ability to recognize habitual situations that can contribute to muscular imbalances and faulty movement patterns, thereby educating clients on changes they can make to help alleviate them. Jan completed all of her training at ABsolute Pilates and has been with the studio since 2003. She is passionate about fitness and education to assist others and to foster well-being in their lives.

 



Kimbery Josey, DC has completed the rehabilitation series from STOTT PILATES®.  As a health care professional, Dr. Josey realizes the importance of proper biomechanics.  She is very passionate about pilates as a technique to retrain spinal and peripheral biomechanics in a post injury state.  Dr. Josey has a bachelor's degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and received her chiropractic degree from Cleavland Chiropractic College.
In addition to rehab, Dr. Josey has clinical experience in nutrition and physical modalities.  She is certified in acupuncture and has training in several chiropractic techniques including SOT, Cox Flexion, and Activator.

 




Mallory Holmes is a Fully Certified STOTT PILATES® Instructor. In addition she holds a certification as an ACE® Certified Group Instructor. She enjoys analyzing and administering movement programs to help clients achieve health and fitness goals. She is well versed in anatomy and biomechanics and continues to educate herself. Mallorys high energy and enthusiasm facilitate dynamic and enjoyable group equipment classes. Mallory is also a certified TRX® and CORE BARRE™ Instructor and is the creator of CORE 'Cardio Dance' which is part of the CORE BARRE™ System of SMART MOVEMENT®.

 

 





Kelly Nalitz is a Fully Certified STOTT PILATES® Instructor and a TRX® trainer at ABsolute Pilates. She also holds a BFA degree in photography from UNC-Charlotte. She enjoys using her knowledge and talents to help her clients achieve optimal stability and strength. Although Kellys training encompasses all groups and populations, she specializes in pre-natal and postnatal training, knowing first hand the challenges facing women in these populations through professional and personal experiences. In addition, Kelly is a Pink Ribbon Certified Specialist. Pink Ribbon is a post-operative workout that enhances recovery developed by a breast cancer survivor for breast cancer survivors. This affords Kelly opportunities to offer post-rehabilitation through the STOTT PILATES® method using both equipment and mat based exercises.

 


Julie Froud is a Fully Certified STOTT PILATES® Instructor and is also a certified strength and and conditioning specialist (CSCS®) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association.  She has eight years of teaching experience in the STOTT PILATES® method and the priveldge of owning and operating her own Pilates Studio in Ontario, Canada before she ahd her husband relocated to Charlotte.
Julie holds a BSc in Kinesiology from the University of Michigan.  She majored in Movement Science and developed the foundation for her continued learning of human movement and the intricacy and precision of the human body.  Julie attended the University of Michigan on full athletic scholarship for cross country running and track.  She also competed for Canada at the World Cross Country Championships.  The physical and mental conditioning of Pilates strengthened her discipline, focus and patience as an athletic individual.  Julie shares her passion for a healthy body with her clients while working to guild body awareness, strength and confidence.  She feels attention paid to how we carry our bodies around is fundamental in taking good care of ourselves and that the principles of Pilates can be a gentle reminder throughout the day and complimentary to other forms of exercise.
